Pulse
Pulse is the heart of ReCult. It answers one question: what is my local community signaling right now? Not what’s popular everywhere — what’s alive around you, today.
How Pulse works
Pulse is a full-screen, one-post-at-a-time view. Swipe up to move to the next post. Each card shows a local post — an event, a listing, a moment — with its location and category.
What you see is shaped by two things:
- Where you are — your locations decide which area’s posts you see.
- What’s being signaled — posts your community is actively Beeping rise so they’re easy to find while they matter.
What a Beep means
A Beep is how you amplify a local signal. When you Beep a post, you’re telling your area: “people around here should know about this.”
A community signal. It says “this matters locally, keep it visible.” It helps genuinely useful, timely posts rise for the people nearby.
A Like or a vanity score. It isn’t about popularity, going viral, or a personal metric. Pulse doesn’t exist to chase attention.
Because of that, Pulse talks about signal, not popularity. You’ll see language like Rising, Hot locally, and People are signaling this — never “trending” or “viral.” It’s a deliberate choice: ReCult is about what your neighbors are pointing at, right now.
Beep the things you’d tell a neighbor about. A great taco pop-up, a last-minute show, a stoop sale worth the walk. That’s exactly what keeps Pulse worth checking.
What you can do on a post
- Beep — amplify the local signal (above).
- Keep — hold onto a post to come back to. Find the posts you’ve kept from your profile.
- Chat — open the post’s live chat to interact with others there. You can reply to chat threads and react.
- Loop — get into a creator’s information loop so their posts reach you faster.
- Send — send a post to anyone on ReCult, or send them a message.
Loop & creators
Tap Loop on someone’s post to get into their loop — the information loop of the local creators, shops, and neighbors you want to stay close to. Once you’re in their loop, their posts reach you faster. You can drop out any time.
Being “in the loop” is ReCult’s simple way to stay close to the people and places that make your area interesting — the venue that always has good shows, the baker who posts when the sourdough’s out.
Nearby: a quick second look
Nearby is a secondary curation you can check in a moment — a fast way to catch important local posts around you without reconfiguring your Pulse.
Glance at Nearby when you want a quick “what’s happening around me right now?”, then go back to your Pulse exactly as you had it. It draws from the same local posts.
Filter your Pulse
Want to see only certain areas or kinds of posts? Use the filter at the top of Pulse.
- Tap the location pill at the top of Pulse. A panel opens asking where you want to browse.
- Choose a location. Pick one or more areas, then confirm.
- Choose a category. Narrow to what you care about — say Food & Drink or Events & Shows.
- Your Pulse updates live as you choose. Clear the filters any time to see everything again.
If Pulse ever looks empty, a filter is usually the reason — you may have narrowed to an area or category with nothing new yet. Open the filter and widen it. See Troubleshooting.
Keeping Pulse good
Pulse stays valuable because people use it honestly. A few simple habits:
- Beep what genuinely matters locally — not everything, and not your own posts on repeat.
- Keep posts real and current. Remove something once it’s over or sold.
- See something off? Report it — that keeps everyone’s Pulse clean.
