Privacy Policy
ReCult connects you with real people and places near you. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the controls you have — including deleting your account and everything in it.
Last updated: August 2026.
Who we are
ReCult is a local‑signal app: a live feed of what's happening near you (Pulse), a way to find the least expensive path to quality goods (Shop), and tools to keep and share what's good. This policy covers the ReCult mobile app and the services behind it. You can reach us any time at support@recult.app.
Information we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work, and we tell you why for each kind:
- Account details — your email address and the display name you choose, so you can sign in and others can see who posted.
- Content you create — the posts, captions, photos, videos, and messages you publish or send, and the categories and areas you attach to them.
- Location — optional. You can use ReCult by choosing areas by hand. If you grant location permission, it powers Nearby; even then, a post shows the area you attach to it, not your exact spot. See Your location.
- Activity in the app — the signals you Beep, the things you Keep, and the areas and categories you browse, so the app can show you a relevant feed.
- Purchases — if you buy in‑app credits or a paid listing, our payment processor handles the transaction and we keep a record of the purchase. We never see or store your full card number.
- Device & diagnostic data — basic technical information and crash / recovery logs, used to keep the app stable and fix problems.
We do not use your data to track you across other companies' apps and websites, we do not sell your personal information, and there are no third‑party advertising trackers in ReCult.
How we use your information
- To run the app — show your feed, publish your posts, power Shop, deliver messages, and remember your saved items and areas.
- To keep it safe — review reports, act on violations, and prevent spam and abuse.
- To support your account — help you sign in, recover access, and answer questions you send us.
- To improve reliability — diagnose crashes and fix bugs using diagnostic data.
When we share information
We share only in these limited ways:
- What you post is public by design. Posts you publish to Pulse are visible to other people in the areas you attach them to. Choose what you share accordingly.
- Service providers. We use trusted vendors to host the service, process payments, and send account email (for example, password‑reset messages). They may only handle data to provide those services to us.
- Shop links are affiliate links. Shop helps you compare prices across retailers. When you tap through to buy, you leave ReCult for the retailer's own site, which has its own privacy practices. Some of those links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of ReCult, our users, or the public.
Your location
- Location access is optional. You can use ReCult fully by picking cities by hand; granting location just powers Nearby.
- You control it. Change location permission any time in your phone's settings for ReCult, and switch your area in the app's location picker.
- Posts show an area, not a pinpoint. A post carries the area you attach to it — never your precise coordinates.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete your content at any time from within the app.
- Block and report anyone or anything that feels wrong — see Safety & privacy.
- Control location from your device settings and the in‑app picker.
- Access or export your data — email support@recult.app and we'll help.
- Delete your account — see below.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account from within the app: open Settings and choose Delete account. When you do, we sign you out everywhere, remove your email and display name from your account record, and take your posts down from the public feed. Some information may be retained for a limited time where the law requires it or to prevent fraud and abuse. Questions? Reach us at support@recult.app.
How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. After you delete your account, we remove or de‑identify your personal information as described above, keeping only what's necessary for legal, security, or fraud‑prevention purposes.
How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information — including encrypted connections and storing passwords only in hashed form, never in plain text. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Children
ReCult is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact support@recult.app and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ReCult evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Continuing to use ReCult after an update means you accept the revised policy.
